Yerzhan Saltybayev: On the international arena Kazakhstan has secured an image of an effective mediator in resolving the most complex disputes and conflicts.

An international conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic service of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held at the Nazarbayev Center in Astana. During the conference, Kazakhstan and foreign diplomats, government officials and experts from leading analytical and academic centers of the country summed up the results, marked the achievements and discussed future directions of the development of Kazakhstan's foreign policy in the context of current trends of global humanitarian development.

On the international arena, Kazakhstan has secured the image of an effective mediator in resolving the most complex disputes and conflicts.

- At the same time, Kazakhstan does not participate in geopolitical games of other countries. We avoid falling within the framework of someone's state or purely bloc interests. Our guidelines are very clear. We proceed from our own national interests, while firmly and unswervingly observing our international obligations, said Yerzhan Saltybayev, Director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics (IWEP) under the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation.

The conference participants focused on the further prospects of Kazakhstan's foreign policy development.

"We have to generate new pragmatic projects for Kazakhstan, and in this regard, the foreign policy department has a huge work to do to upgrade its activities, primarily in the implementation of the strategic initiatives of the Leader of the Nation," pointed out the Director of IWEP.

With regards to this, one of the most promising areas is the activation of work with foreign expert and analytical circles, including the Astana Club format.

- State diplomacy is not only working with a political or business establishment. Today it is necessary to expand the scales and formats of the dialogue platforms. This should be a precise and selective work. It involves the development of our active "soft power" in Kazakhstan. One of the most effective formats could be the annual "Astana Club" held in the building of the Foundation of the First President. By bringing leading experts and politicians from around the world to focus together on the theme of Greater Eurasia, the Club could become an authoritative and politically unbiased platform for a candid international dialogue," noted Saltybaev.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbassy, the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation, in cooperation with the Institute of World Economics and Politics under the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation.
