Kazakhstan and China: "Nurly Zhol" and the Belt and Road Initiative

The international round table on "Perspectives of development of cooperation between the RK and PRC within the framework of Nurly Zhol" and the "One Belt, One Road"  initiative was held at the Institute of World Economics and Politics under the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Leader of the Nation (IWEP).

The event was attended by delegates from the Development Research Center of  the State Council of the PRC (DRC) and IWEP experts under the Foundation of the First President of the RK – Leader of the Nation.

The agenda included the discussion of cooperation issues between Kazakhstan and China in line with the development of the "Nurly Zhol" infrastructure program and the "One Belt, One Road" initiative. Various aspects of the influence of the "One Belt, One Road" program on improving transport infrastructure, international trade and logistics in the countries of Central Asia were covered as well.

"The transit potential of Kazakhstan is of key importance for the development of economic and trade ties not only in the Greater Eurasia region, but also for adjacent centers of world integration," said Yerzhan Saltybaev, IWEP Director, during the discussion. According to him, the implementation of the "Nurly Zhol" program in this regard is a strategically important component for the further successful interaction of peoples and economies globally.

As a result of the event, recommendations and proposals were offered on how to promote transport and logistics cooperation between China, Kazakhstan and the countries along the Silk Road.

DRC is the largest research organization in China, ranking 2nd among the Chinese "think-tanks." DRC operates under the State Council of the PRC (Government). Its main task is to conduct strategic research in the field of national economy and social development, as well as to formulate recommendations for the Chinese government.
