The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) was established in accordance with the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union, signed in May 2014. This international organization for regional economic integration currently unites five post-Soviet states: Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. Of the fifteen post-Soviet states that emerged as a result of the USSR collapse, the remaining ten former union republics remained outside the organization.

The preliminary results have shown that the political ally of President Atambayev Sooronbai Jeenbekov won in the presidential elections gaining 54% of votes cast.

Obviously, Jeenbekov's victory was possible due to the direct involvement and support of President Atambayev. A week before the election, the incumbent president accused Omurbek Babanov, the chief rival of Jeenbekov, of having secret relations with the Kazakhstan authorities and that he was preparing riots in case he would lose.

Formally, his future will be decided this Sunday, October 15. A candidate for the presidency of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov, supported by the incumbent president, will be up against strong competition in the face of the opposition politician Omurbek Babanov.
